DailyVault.com Gifted singer and pianist Debbie Andrews was raised in Detroit in the middle of the turbulent '60's. When she was seven years old she began her study of classical piano. Her love for music as well as her skills increased over the years. A young Andrews impressed others enough with her talents that she earned a notable Jazz Fellowship Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. In the '70's, barely sweet sixteen, she landed her first big professional gig, appearing on Broadway in the nationally acclaimed musical HAIR. She played the role of Chrissy singing "Frank Mills". Debbie's second solo release "Suburbs of Eden" is a follow up to her critically praised 1997 debut record "Surrounded By Windows." "Eden" is a collection of piano-based melodies and lyrics suffused with dream-like imagery. It is co-written with singer/songwriter Mike Blaxill. Appearing on the record are guitarist Dan Petty (Shawn Colvin), drummer Brian Delaney (David Clayton Thomas) and bassist Jeff Allen (Duncan Sheik). She continues to gain recognition for her talents with "Suburbs of Eden". Songwriters Monthly raves "...song structures, harmonies, changes and rhythms all scream for radio play... Dog on a Skylight has a special vibe". Muzikman.com said her songs are "...very powerful and reach you in many ways through the diversity and flexibility of the music and the outstanding lyrical content." Her latest project is Gladshot, the band with whom she performs and writes, founded with her "Eden" co-writer Blaxill. They finished work on "Burn Up and Shine", their CD with producer John Agnello (The Hold Steady, Oxford Collapse, Sonic Youth, Jennifer O'Connor). Appearing on the record as guest vocalist is Lisa Lowell from Springsteen's Seeger Sessions. Gladshot's songs have been featured on ABC, MTV, the WB network, and Oxygen and they've shared the stage with such artists as Michelle Shocked, The Antlers, Head Automatica, Lo Faber (of God Street Wine) and Corey Harris. |
